NOT MY PIECE postcapitalism for beginners

«To engage oneself in projects that are known to be unrealisable but desirable, and to seek to convince others to also engage in such projects, turns the projects a little less unrealisable.» (Vilém Flusser: «Into Immaterial Culture»)

NOT MY PIECE is an introduction into the world of post-capitalism*, that presents its concepts step
by step, which is then directly applied to and on the theatre stage. In this choreography of providing services complex economic connections are presented in a simplified form, giving way to a farce that is surprising, truthful and funny, but obliges us to reflect.

Nowadays the end of the capitalist system (the pillar of our society) is a recurrent theme in the media. In many cases, like for example the fate of numerous Greeks, it’s an urgent reality. The system could collapse from one day to the next. So it’s high time to prepare ourselves for this crisis, before our feet get wet.

“TINA – There Is No Alternative”, is Margaret Thatcher‘s slogan… NOT MY PIECE is an attempt to prove that there are maybe plenty of other alternatives. The slogan of Martin Schick would rather be: “TAMARA – There Are Many Awesome Realistic Alternatives!”

The choreographer and performer Martin Schick introduces a first-hand economic investigation, which he brings onto the stage for the audience to understand and experience for themselves as a socio-political science fiction. What can new economic systems look like, and above all, how do they work? How much do we need for our own personal pros- perity? Can less really be more? The theatrical event emerges increasingly as a sort of crowdsourcing for an actually planed research centre. A play as a starting point for a long-term project: A piece of land, which becomes an open stage…

NOT MY PIECE is a play between reality and the irrational. Simple strategies for new economic life are implemented pragmatically, treated as things of visionary substance, and at the same time as absurdity, sensually demonstrated.

„TINA – There Is No Alternative“ lautet(e) der Slogan von Margret Thatcher…
